Allison Trans - TranSynd or TranSynd RD

I'm going to change my tranny fluid, 24,000 miles, and the spin on filter. My distributor sent me TranSynd RD instead of just TranSynd. The TranSynd RD says it is for Rough Duty off-road service and carries the TES-353 rating. I am not sure if it's bettor than TranSynd for typical hiway towing use. Is anyone familiar with the TranSynd RD and is it better or not acceptable in our Allison's?

I've done some additional research into this topic and have found that the Transynd RD should not be used in our Allisons.

As noted by another Duamax enthusiast:
"Transynd RD meets TES-353 and is the extreme service "synthetic" version of the Allison C-4 service fill. It is NOT approved for on-road transmissions. "Transynd RD" is for 5000 - 9000 series transmissions for off-road use only. The "Transynd" that meets TES-295 is specifically designed for the 1000 and 2000 series tranmissions; it is the extreme service fluid designed for on-road applications.
I highly suggest you NOT use the RD product in your 1000 series tranny! Return it, and tell the distrubtor you wanted the "regular" Transynd that meets TES-295 for your 1000 series transmission."

I also phoned Allison today and spoke with one of their Transmission Fluid Engineers. He confirmed this information and said it also has a much higher viscosity and will not work well in our transmissions when it's cold, or for hiway use. I'm going with the full synthetic regular Transynd.

you could also use Amsoil Torque Drive Synthetic ATF. It replaces the Transynd and apparently provides a little better protection.:HappyMugs

Just go with Transynd. It's specifically made for our Allison transmissions. I went with it and the change intervals are great!

After working at an allison distributor, i would put nothing but the transynd in these along with a genuine ally filter. i highly doubt an aftermarket brand can provide better protection than what was specifically designed for this transmission

In testing the Amsoil Torque Drive provides everything that transynd provides almost number to number and letter to letter thats why they call it a clone because it is exactly that.
