305SB any good?

I saw an ad in the local paper for a used '95 Chevy half-ton with a 305 SB that my Dad likes.
All I know is that the 305 wasn't a powerhouse, but anyone have any ideas on reliability, economy, and ease of maintenance?

A 95' is pre vortec so you wont have to worry about the dreaded intake leak. As far as reliability, economy, and ease of maintenance, the 305 is nearly identical to the 350. Only difference is the bore and a computer tune. Only concern if I was looking at it would be rust. Remember, its 15 years old. Good luck.

Dont expect good mpg in it. 305 were worse than the 4.3L and the 5.7L in fuel in my dealings. Personally I hate that motor. Its a turd. Id rather have a 4.3L. BUT if the price is right and he likes it....go for it! Its a TBI setup. No real problems with those except sometimes the TBI gasket leaked and EGR. Done a few fuel pumps on those too but thats expected.
