Rear drums

The parking brake is out on my truck, has been since i bought it. Ive been attempting to pull the rear drums but havnt had any luck. Tried the adjuster and beat the drum until i was deaf. One of the guys i work with said i might have to pull the axle to get the drum off. Is this necessary or is it possible the drum is just rusted around the axle and studs and is stuck?

nope pull the axle and buy all the outer seals to replace with new ones. It is easy to do if you just follow everything just like you took it apart. I jacked the side I was working on really high pulled the axle and cught some of the fluid. Did the brakes and put it all back to gether and repeated teh sames steps on the other side. I barely lost any fluid.

What I do is take an air hammer or a big punch and hammer and put penetrating oil threw the stud holes, turn the rim, sand the end of the axle and have at it.
Works every time for me!
When you put it back on, clean the flange, and drum. Put a little never size on the axle flange.

Got ahold of a mechanic and apparently the axle has to be pulled on trucks with the 6.5td and 454. So its on my to do list if it ever stops raining up here.
