Why do non Diesel Mechanics work on Diesel

I recently bought a 86 Burban with a 6.2l. Kniwing nothing about diesel I started reading ALOT and learning. I encountered minor issues and know that I got the Factory service manual after looking at Chiltons and Haynes it amazes me at the butchering of systems that people have done. I knew the guy I bought it from and he took it to mechanics. Can'tsay much about the first owner.

The more I look and read the more questions I have. But thats the fun of it. I guess the thing that is killing me is I cannot find decent color to pin wiring diagrams to try and make things they are supposed to be. Back to the cruise control system got a 483 mile drive next week it would be nice if it works.

Let me thank all of you for your post and replies in the past as I think I read most of them. I guess I should be thankfull that its running.

Smart move with getting a FSM. The other 2 are decent for pictures and torque specs, but that is about it.

I know my Ram has a separate electrical diagnostics book, so you might need to find out if there is one for yours.

Check on Helms website....maybe they have something to help you.

IIRC, dont the wiring diagrams have the wire colors named?
