GMC/Chevy 3500HD's. . .

I have seen quiet a few of these 92'-98' GM 3500HD trucks around but i can't seem to find much Spec info on them. . .

Motor options transmissions gear ratios wheel bases ECT. . .

I been thinking about getting 1. can they be had in the short wheel based 60" Cab to Axle ?

Engine options (depending on year) would be;
7.4L V8 Gas
5.7L V8 Gas
6.2L V8 Diesel
6.5L V8 Diesel

Gearing would be either 3.73 or 4.10.

The shortest wheel base was (I believe) 92 inches for the RC/LB.

Hope this helps.

Ok so i found a sight with a list of Repo codes listing 4.56 n 4.88 as the 3500HD Gearing options:
G82 = 4.56. 1992'-2000' 4.56 n 225/70R19.5F tires.
HF8 = 4.88. 1967'-1986' 4.88 n LT8-19.5 tires.

THEN I FOUND THIS INFO:
http://www.sixfiveturbodiesel.com/sh...ghlight=3500hd

I did find out my 62' GMC K4500 has Eaton Axles not GM . . .while searching for info on these other trucks. . .

For what its worth Mike, I have never seen 4.56 or 4.88 gears in a light duty GM truck from the factory. Those are however used heavily in GM's medium duty truck line though.

no the 3500's are considered light duty. Ton and a half (4500) and bigger are medium duty's. As far I as I'm aware, Gm only put the 14 bolt in the 89-01 3500's. The tallest gear I know that you can get are 5.13's. but stock you only get max of 4.10's.

these guys seem to think other wise for the stock gear on the 3500HD, not the standard 3500 with the 16 inch wheels but the unit that came with the 19.5 inch wheels. . .

Those trucks are what is called a "incomplete vehicle". When you buy them, you get a cab, engine, & a frame and have to add whatever you want for the body. They may be classified as medium duty, but they are based on light duty frames. All the equipment on them is aftermarket and usually dealer installed.

Mike we have those trucks as stake beds all over the Military. Most are being taken out of service and have been auctioned off at DRMO for several years now. I have only driven one a few times. It seems IIRC that it's basically a 3500 dually with a body lift/odd bumper extension to clear the 19.5s, an extra helper spring and call it 1.25 ton. I asked for one years ago and it classified as a commercial vehicle so they, TMP Contracting Office, said no. That by no stretch of the imagination means they had a clue what was going on. I also made the mistake of asking for the truck with a diesel and they said no chance.

So its considered a Commercial truck very cool, I'm rather impressed with the amount of them around Running the 6.5 diesel, but the 454 Vortec seems to be the more sought after and higher priced unit, then goes the 454TBI, then finally the 6.5-T, but i have 2 or 3 with a 350 in them. . .
