!990 Chevy front axle

I have a Chevy 1990 3/4 ton. I have had alot of trouble with the axle shaft on the passenger side popping the snap ring out of the groove on the end of the axle. When this happens the front axle bangs and will not pull. Is there an up-dated axle, or a fix for this? Thanks for any help.

do you have a lift on the truck? Or are the torsion bars cranked?

No lift and I have not checked the torsion bars.

I am pretty sure you do not have torsion bars. It should have a dana 60 with leaf springs.

It's deffinetly a torsion bar IFS setup. The only trucks that were straight axled after 88 (89-91) were blazers and suburbans (gm 10 bolt front axle) and crew cab one ton trucks (dana 60). If the torsion bars are cranked it can cause unusual stress on the cv shaft which I have seen cause the snap ring to want to pop off and te shaft slide out. But thats only in extreme cases where the bars are cranked ALL the way up. Do you know the history of the truck? I have also seen situations where the diff brackets are tweaked and the diff itself is moved one way or hte other causing it to be closer to one side than the other. Thats far more likely on lifted trucks though not stock.... how about pics? Maybe that would help me.

I thought that was only true of 1/2 ton trucks? Werent all 3/4 & 1 ton trucks solid front axle until 1992?
