1999 1/2 ton chevy gear size???

Can some body help me out with the size of the ring and pinion in a 1/2 tone chevy 4x4. Brotherinlaw needs to regear his truck (gas burner by the way) and I have finaly talk him into it. But he ask me if I could get the info for him. I dont have any clue as to what size the ring and pinion are in his truck. He is currently running either 3.42 or 3.73 but is going to 4.56. I have check all the normal sites for gears but they all require you to know what size. nothing easy any more. Also if any of the vendors here can help out will be greatly appriciated.
Thanks Paul

could be either a 10 bolt 8.5 or 12 bold 9.5.... in the OBS 99

It looks to be an 8.6 in the NBS 99-2000
