2008 Ford F250
2 stroke fouling plugs?
I am new to the 2 stroke dirtbike thing. I picked up a rebuilt ktm 250. The previous owner said he always mixed the fuel at 40:1 which is what Ive been doing. I use it just to pretty much play with around the farm/trail riding. Im using an NGK BR9ES plug. Any ideas as to why it's fouling plugs left and right?

Big Ugly
Too much oil in the mix. Should be closer to 60:1. Does it mix it itself? or do you pre-mix?

too much will definitely foul plugs....but it will lubricate the hell out of the cylinder...

It's pre-mix. I just cant understand why it's fouling and the previous owner had no problems at 40:1 (or so he says).

What mixture does the manufacturer recomend? That is what you should go by.

Everything I've found on KTM 250's from the manual says 40:1 - 60:1 ( I guess the company gives a fudge factor)...so try leaning it out a bit...slowly...after a couple tanks,..get it closer to 60:1...and see where it runs better.

Check the air filter. A dirty air filter will make it run rich and foul plugs. I would not lean the mixture 60:1 is way too lean. If the air filter is dirty your problem is probably solved. Clean it with gas and let it dry, get some foam filter oil, lightly oil it, let it dry and put it back in and wfo. I always keep 2 filters so I have one to go in and not wait. If ur still fouling plugs I would change the jetting before I changed the mixture. If u need help with jetting let me know.

try running 32:1 mix and ngk br8es plugs i did this with all my yz's and banshees and it works awesome aweso check your air filter and carb jets might be clogged

Im going to look at the air cleaner. Ive heard this from a few people besides just reading it on here. Thanks for the help guys.

60:1 for the mix is perfect. I'm not sure how you are riding the bike, but any 2-stroke is not meant to be ridden at low rpm for a length of time.
