I am still waiting on the results of the Thatch Grass Bio. Hopefully all these ideas will produce one usable solution.

Its a good idea but I dont think that it will ever take off as a reasonable fuel alternative

I heard about bio from algae a while back, but havent heard if it is taking off, or even producing tangible results.

It is the same as the stuff spread around the Exxon oil spill, the stuff is bioengineered to do what you want.
The law of unintended consequences is at work, if the bugs wind up in the wild what happens? We found the oil eating bugs by crashing jets in Vietnam and spread them around the world so there is a chance of getting your pickups tank contaminated.
Converting cellulose to sugar or vegatable oil may lead to wooden stuff falling down, if the stuff escapes.
