Pics of my first batch

I think all went well with my first batch of Bio.
Used the Dr. Pepper method with 1L of veg oil, 250ml methanol and 1 tsp lye.
No titration yet, just the bare min.
Used my wife's nylons for a filter.
I let the bottle sit in a warm water bath in the sink during the reaction.
Preheated in the fry daddy, did all mixing /washing in the bottle, dried in the fry daddy.

Finished bio (for the most part) and the glycerin

Seems like it is way too yellow.I read where you should be able to read a newspaper through your finished product.
The color closely matches new veg oil.

Looks good to me, I havent made a test batch yet. I'm gathering parts for a complete processor then I'll play with small batches. I figure I'll be able to complete the process ok and once that happens I'll want to jump into larger batches as soon as possable.

Where are you located?

Located in Maine.
I am also getting parts together for an appleseed reactor. The purpose of this batch was to get my feet wet.
Methanol proved to be the toughest chemical to find.I have been quoted as high as $16 per gallon to as low as $2.25 per gallon, so search around.

I've done a bit of shopping and found it for $125. for 55 gal.
I've got to figure out the recovery method so I dont have to buy as much.
The lye has been a problem here, figures.

Thats a good question. I've located it (not bulk) at my local True Value store. Guess I should start looking for a bulk supplier.

Try here http://www.azurebiodiesel.com/ look under RESOURCES. I'm sure you could have it shipped to your door. I just noticed it while looking for info on biodiesel. Hope it helps.

Look for middle men chemical suppliers. They're abundent here in Houston, I'm not sure what kind of industry you guys have up there but I'll check on some prices and see if I can't locate any in your region. I haul for these companies or I wouldn't know they exist. They take the true bulk (tank trailers and rail tanks) and drum it off.
