New to this and lost, Bio questions

I am confused, I got some 55 gal drums, cut the top off one and made a stand for it. I went to buy a hot water heater element and they said there is no way to tell what temp the element would heat up to??? Do you wire the element to a switch and check temp till it gets to about 60 and turn it off?? still learning and reading alot. Good info here, you guys amaze me....... I guess I just need someone to help me with direction...

You should need a separate temp guage and adjust your element to keep that temp. look here. is off the top of my head and I can't seem to find my copy of the book to build one but I will keep looking.

megaram, just use an old water heater, change the 220 volt element to 110 volt, remove the top element and plug the hole ( if it has one) also disable the top thermostat( if it has one). now you have a tank, heater and thermostat you can set at whatever temp. you want. i usually set mine at 120 degrees. i suggest you consult "biodiesel community website" good reading on the appleseed.
