Have a question about bio. Can I run 20 gals through a 50 gallon hot water heater

Just wondering if I can run only 20 gallons of oil though a 50 gallon hot water heater without burning up the heating element...?

sure, thats what i use. the trick is you must disable the top element. i just took mine out and plugged the hole, removed the top thermostat, and wiired straight to the bottom.you can make smaller batches as long as there is enough oil to cover the element. if you are just starting out i suggest you consult "Collaborative Biodiesel Tutorial" website. they will be able to give you the plans for turning your hot water heater into a biodiesel processor.because you need more than just waterheater(pump, plumbing, modifications, temp.gage, etc... hope this helps

Put a clear cinyl tube on the outside of the tank and make sure the element is covered. Like tommy vestrat says just make sure the element is covered.
