Input needed from Biodiesel Brewers

I have been looking into producing my own biodiesel for awhile. I have even made a few sucessful mini-batches (before I deployed). What is the easiest/best way to test the potential oil? Litmus strips, ph meter?

I have also seen a very expensive processor (the Bio Pro 150, 190 or 380). Has anyone heard of or seen these in action? Supposedly they require no testing and are basically "hands off".

I had never tested the oil before hand, the source I had was decent oil.
We just put in it our tank and heated then titrated, then processed.
We turned out a lot of good fuel this way. I ran across a guy last summer that has converted a lot of bad oil too, he just blended it 50/50 with good oil. He had the luxury of too much oil around, not many people have that.
