Hwy Diesel Concerns

New guy here. I know this is a Diesel Truck forum, but my concerns are about today's highway diesel.

I first discovered the new highway diesel issue from a tractor fourm some two weeks ago. When I realized I would not get unough info from them, I went looking, and stumbled on this site.

I have an '95 Kubota with 500 hours. Most of the hours were placed in '95, '96, & '97. Since that time I have used the tractor about 8 times a year to cut grass. I have always used Highway Diesel, and the tractor has preformed flawlessly (without issue) for 14 years.

I have read this site with great interest about adding a lubricate to today's diesel. But I'm still wondering about whether or not, to use a lubricate with today's highway diesel in my 14 year old tractor.

DO I, or DON'T I add a lubricate like two cycle oil to my 14 year old tractor.

Adding a lubricant wont hurt your tractor one bit. But if I was in your sitution i would run off-road diesel. Its still the same as "old" diesel, that it still has a higher sulfur content for lube purposes and your not giving uncle sam your hard earned dollar for nothing.

If you have a fuel lubercated injection pump, which I'm guessing you do have a rotory style pump, and run ulsd (ultra low sulfur diesel) add a lil oil to your fuel just for piece of mind.

Thank you very much for your response.

The truth about Off-Road Diesel is: I didn't even know such a creature existed until last September. We were riding an Oklahoma Circle by motorcycle (that's what we do), when we stopped at a country store. there was a storage tank over on the side of the store with a sign "Farm Diesel".

That was the first time in my life, I heard of farm diesel. BUT, I thought the only difference was taxes. I had no idea there was a difference in the formula as well. I may have to make some inquiries about getting the right fuel, and saving money in the process....thanks....!!!
