trailer laws

whats a happnin. i got a question, i know the laws are diff in every state but this one probably doesnt vary much. is it legal to haul a vehicle on a trailer that is not a car hauler? liek lets say a 6x18ft trailer? ive heard yes and no. it looks like as long as the trailer says it can support the weight it shouldnt be a problem. vehilce weighs about 4500lbs just for the heck of it. thankye

What are the trailer axle rated for and what does the weight say on the registration card for the trailer?

as long as the vehicle is secured on the trailer properly i dont see what the problem would be. if you are tagged for the weight & your trk & trl are set up to handle it you wont have a problem.

I haul my CJ7 and my friends Ford 8N tractor on my 6 1/2 by 16 Utility Trailer, no problems. I am not aware of any laws forbidding it.

The axles should be rated for what your towing and by law you should not exceed the registered weight capacity of the trailer, at least by the laws here in PA.and any trailer registered over 3000# has to have trailer breaks.

Yes, that's pretty much anywhere. My trailer is capable of 5500#'s and has brakes. If I were to overload it the average patrol officer is not going to stop or cite me for overweight unless the violation is so blatant as to not be ignored (ie traffic hazard). You would have to run into a truck inspector or traffic specialist with portable scales and too much free time to get that ticket.

I should clarify I don't haul them at the same time...

What's so bad about that? At least it's not a triple trailer. Ha, ha. I've seen a lot worse around here. Mostly in the Home Depot parking lot.
