1lw head install question

I just installed a new head on a 1lw, my question is, how do you determine if the engine is pinned on #1 or #6? or does it even matter? Does the cam actually determine which one will be on compression? If I'm not mistaken as long as the flywheel is pinned an the cam gear is installed lined up with the timing marks everything should be fine right? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
