Marine Parts?

I see posts sometimes referring to marine part numbers. Are marine parts better? Just curious, trying to learn more information.

You will find that CAT seems to be the only engine manufacturer that pumps the HP out of their marine engines, the build them so the internals are tougher and more suited to the job and they take advantage to being able to use fresh water cooling to make sure temps don't get out of hand.
I think 580 was the upper limit on the mechanical 3406, 800 on the marine E model, 865 on the C15. Building a decent horsepower CAT is as simple as knowing the right part numbers to order.

Okay sled, let me do a little picking at your mind, I have found the listing for the 0R-8787s, but I have still yet to find the 0R-8789 any where on SIS.

I did find a few other odd numbers though while I was playing around on there this weekend like a 0R-8788, 0R-8791, and 0R-9943 all injectors. Im not sure on the HP rating of the engines they are from as they are gen sets, but I believe all of them were quad turbo 3412s.

Marine engines use the sea water to cool exhaust and air intake. as you know water removes heat faster than air. this allows higher HP as the heat can be controlled much butter. Cams, injection parts, timing ,etc may diffrer from truck to boat engines of the same family.
Mack was in the marine market before volvo stepped in. I recall the ME7(E7) 12 liter rated for 600HP. The ME9 (E9)16 liter was rated around 900HP+.

1978 MACK RS700L
285 HP @2100 RPM 1080 TORQUE. @1200 RPM
2 STICK 6 SPEED, 4.17 REARS ON 34K CAMELBACK SPRINGS,206"WB, 4" STRAIGHT STACKS BLOWING BLACK,

OH...AND A FEW TWISTS OF THE FUEL SCREWS ....THANKS AGAIN... FJH!

8789's were Genset nozzles rated anywhere from 519HP to 660HP. Yes, there WAS a 660HP 3406C used in a Genset. No good for the road with fixed timing, though.

The 8785's I used was from Serial Prefix 4TB. I listed it wrong earlier...it's been several years since I built my C engine. There are two HP ratings for the 4TB....500, and 580. Both have 99% the same parts as a C on road engine. Both ratings have the same 8785 nozzle.
