Oil consumption after overhead ran... 1LW 3406E

What could cause this? Its my cousins truck, he had someone run the overhead and then it started using oil real bad. It also has major blowby.

When you run the overhead on one of these do you mess with injector high or anything like that?

Could it be the air compressor? Thats what they are leaning toward but to me, I think if it was that it wouldn;t be buildin any air at all. He goes thru a gallon every 1000 miles?

The truck runs great! It was supposedly rebuild 300k ago.

There is always the chance that the air intake was loose and eating dirt in the intake some were. I have seen that a few times.

when the overhead is set, the inj height should be checked with a Cat guage, the tolerances are +/-0.002 from memory, Is the compressor putting oil in the wet tank?? If the consumption and blowby just showed up after the overhead, you would think it has something to do with the problem, not real sure what tho, Is the blow by just at dead idle or across the board?? and does compressor cycle seem to have any thing to do with it??

Just remembered.... it has a miss or just plain idles rough.

THe blowby seems to be all the time. It smoke blue smoke when he starts it, cold or hot.

Theakerstwo what do you mean about the intake? You mean for the compressor or motor?

I'll ask him some more questions today when I see him just to make sure I got everything right.

Remembered one other thing. He says he keeps clogging the oil filter. What would cause that?

Look at the intake piping and see if its not eating dirt. After a engine eats dirt it will be wore out and this will let carbon into the oil. That will stop a filter faster.

Bet thats it also. He told me yesterday he was running it with a boost leak that he couldn't find. He found it, it was a boot that had a hole in it.
