I don't think there was ever an 8 speed with no range box. There have been some 7 speeds though. Check for a button on the side of the knob. It might be some oddball Spicer.

If you look at it and like it, don't let on to the seller and lowball him, maybe his lack of proper description will scare off other buyers.

Im gonna drive out n see it.on the interior pics i looked at the shifter.theres no range selector at all just a stick and looks like a homemade shift handle outa a bicycle grip w finger grooves on it.kinda wierd.werent those 7speeds syncronized trans? It has a series 60 380 hp.

There were some 7 speed synchros but they didn't go much above 550 or 600 lb-ft. I guess for the high torque trannies the gears are too massive for the synchros to bring up or down speed without excessive force by the driver so they make them non synchro.

Anyway, the Fuller straight 7 speed is a 1400 lb-ft unit which is what I expect you might find in there. I'm not sure if I can recommend it. The steps between the lower gears are really wide and the steps between the upper are really close together and this happens progressively so some drivers find it hard to adjust coming from a transmission where all the steps are the same.

I think that is the good Detroit to have, the o/o's liked it because it was good on fuel. What is the model number of the transmission and the rear gear ratio? Or how fast is it turning at the speed you want to cruise?
