International 444E

I have a International 444E 210 Hp 7.5L 136,000 Auto Hydro.
Hard start needs a shot of ether, Smokes then engine light comes on and will not go above an idle. here's the kicker I let it idle for about 15 min. shut it down restart it with no ether and it will run just find. Let it sit over night and I have the same problems.

Sounds like the glow plug system is not responding. After started and shut down the heat soaks the pistons and warms them up so it will bust off.

Thumbs up

Spend the day or two running the wire harnesses from the ECM to the batery and all the sensors. Pull the ECM and check for corrosion inside the case. Verry common in the areas with salt usage Also the wire harness from the batery to the ECM will corrode on strait trucks / tractors and raise all kinds of hell.
Are you treating your fuel year round with howes lubricator? If not, start doing so the newer Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel is garbage and rumor is theyre going to mess it up again.

This wont replace putting a wrench to metal but, I would also try a new fuel filter and run a couple cans of Diesel Purge. You might have crud on the injectors or one or two getting lazy. If you have a DIESEL FUEL SERVICE KIT NEVER USE A GASOLINE SETUP run it into the acess port. If dont have a service kit, but you have a spin on filter fill a new filter with D.P. If you dont have either run one can near empty with two or three gallons of fuel in the tank let it idle or drive slow arround town, change the fuel filter, then one can with 20 to 25 gallons take it on a ride both city and highway and open it up. I do this on my 466E when I change the filter twice a year. I do the filter technique. This spring it helped get me a couple more weeks/ 2500 miles on a bad injector.

Good luck.

I know of nowhere that the fuel is not a bio mix and in the fuel lubricity study that is available it was by far the very best, fuel does not need additives to work, and removing sulphur did not damage anything, except a few Cummins PT pumps, the throttle shaft seals leaked.
Removing the sulphur from fuel was the same boogeyman BS as when they removed the lead in gas, every engine was going to need a valve job, and every engine was going to need inserts, 100% BS.
The new one is it will destroy the carburetors in all the small engines, that again is 100% BS.
Removing the sulphur from fuel, cut down on the burnt valves and damaged turbo's.
Just a thought!
