found cat 3406b injection pump

a freind of a freind has a ford dump truck with a blown 3406 b . rod went thru side of block. i can have the pump for $250. he had it resealed two years ago. its missing one injector line that he sold to a freind and did not cover the bushing. the hood stays closed. should i worry about anything gettting in there. should i have it gone thru. need also someone in the dallas area that is willing to take it off and put in on mine. i need to replace mine becouse i get fuel in my oil.

$250 for a used pump sounds like a good deal if it is a good one. I wouldn't be too worried about the line being left off unless it was in a very dirty environment. When you get it on your truck you could flush it out with the hand primer pump before installing the line. At worst you may need to replace that barrel. Might not hurt to take a snap shot of the blown engine's data tag for reference should you need the numbers from it. Fuel settings will probably be different but hard to say if it will be something noticeable. Just wondering if you are certain that your fuel in the oil problem is being caused by the injection pump? Usually it is caused by a bad fuel nozzle.

As stated, could be nozzle leaking. As could inner line, nozzle pop screw, etc. I would not replace the pump unless it is indeed the cause of the leak. Usually the engine will have a skip or miss if a plunger is bad enough to leak.
