Cummins Big Cam help

I am building a 79 Mack Superliner with a Big Cam 2 I believe.Here is the serial number on block 10801801 and the CPL is 393.Can someone help me with the CPL and let me know the info on that.Thanks

BC1, rated at 400.

The early 400s have 14.5:1 compression compared to the later 400s at 14:1. If it has the original cam that is different then later 400s as well.

Thanks for the reply.Are these pretty good motors?Im currently running a Pete with a Bmodel with the fuel done and bigger turbo.Can this big cam make just as good power with pump adjustments etc?

Big cams are good engines, they preform differently then a B model, you don't lug the BC and need to use the rpm, don't pull it below around 15-1600rpm if you add fuel by either the pump or injectors.

My best suggestion is to have a set of injectors built for it then you can do some pump work to match injectors or have it done by the shop that builds the injectors.

Really good engines! Some improvements were made along the way such as lower press fit liners. It is hard to find anyone to do that machine work anymore but a good investment if you are going to keep and run it. There were some different liner options along the way so if you go back as it was match replacements to number on old ones. If it has coolant streaks on block from head gaskets plan to have the block cut before even starting.
