Air Pressure prob

Air compressor keeps building pressure till pop off blows(around 160psi) replaced gov on compressor no help. it has an air dryer on it not sure what brand(sticker is painted over). Any ideas? Would a new dryer fix the prob?

Welcome to the TDG!

Your air dryer desiccant cartridge might need to be replaced, or the line from the air tank (or air dryer) to the governor might be plugged.

Ice in the discharge line from the compressor will do the same thing. Tank isn't getting filled, and the governor isn't getting any air pressure back from the tank to kick out.

It is not ice. temps are too warm here. I will get a cartridge and check my lines.

The unloader valves in the compressor could be sticking as well. Seen this happen and it caused the head gasket on the compressor to blow.

Air governer 0r unloaders are stuck! one or the other!The air drier is controled by the same trigger as the governer unloader line!If the air drier is purging then the unloaders are stuck if the aire drier is not purgingthen suspect the governer.

Do you have system pressure in the control line at the air govener . If not it will not unload the comp. and keep pumping air .
