air line off compressor

I've heard running hyd. line off the compressor is a bad idea as the extreme heat causes the rubber to become hard, is this true? I've seen some trucks with a short section of steel braided line like 2 ft off the compressor then switching to hyd. line and it seems to work ok. I currently have steel braided line from the compressor to the air dryer, about 9 ft worth, but there is a hole in the line back by the dryer. a new braided line is like $125+, what should I use to replace it? I was thinking of cutting the steel braided line like 2 ft beyond the compressor (like I said above), then getting hyd. line for the rest back to the dryer. thanks in advance.

I would do that. Shorten it up, move the braided line closer and then get some hyd hose for the rest away from the compressor.

I'd go to KW and get the 2' nylon braid line off a Cummins, then AEROQUIP then rest of the way. It will last forever, it's OEM, and it's DOT legal, unlike the rest that stuff. Have about $55 in it with the coupler

We always just get ours made at a local hose shop when they blow, but the whole line does not have to be flex hose. It only needs a foot or two off the compressor. After that it can be all copper back to the dryer. It has to be supported so it doesn't crack. That is how they were all made back in the olden days but usually when you figure labor cost and the cost of having a truck not operational it is best just to yank out the old flex hose and yank in a new one, all stainless steel covered and teflon lined like OE.
