C-15 injector trim codes

Just in-framed a C-15 at work (my first cat rebuild). Has anyone ever ran into having brand new re-man injectors right from CAT not having the 12 digit code needed for the trim files. There was only a 7 digit and also a 4 or 5 digit code on the top of the solenoid body that I had written down before install. WTF. Cat dealer is stumped. They said that they'll send me new injectors and credit me for the others-Great!!???? I have the whole thing done and buttoned up. '06 MXS serial. 10R-7174? injector PN which each came with a cd that has like 100 + files to choose from. I pulled off 2 of the valve covers for another look. No numbers on the side of the white plastic solenoid, nothing on the top spring pad, nothing on the smooth polished metal ring on the injector body just below the solenoid. Nothing. Looks like I get more practice adjusting valves, injectors, jakes, and intake valve actuators on a c-15. Most time consuming top end adjustment I've done yet. Oh well, I'm having fun though. Engine seems to run fine. Whats the worst that can happen by not having the correct trim codes programmed in the ecm?

Cat will swear the trim codes are for idle quality. Personally I've never had them make a difference in idle, but certain codes will give a little more power on non-Acert applications. Not sure for Acert though.

that is weird...usually the remans have a metal ring around the solenoid so like you said and the numbers could be on that or by the two posts that your inj harness hooks to. Like sledman said they are usually just for idle smoothness...you should be fine.....i've never tried on the newer ones but like the older 5EK engines you can change the codes and get some more power

MMMMMMM, interesting info. New injectors were ordered up. Hopefully they all have a good 12 digit # on them to use. Is there any bulletins on Cat SIS on anything about trim codes so I can learn more?

Trim codes are result of injector calibration, All injectors flow different cc rates. The trim does affect idle but also across the whole fuel map. If you play with trim codes, I have got over 50 hp wheel difference of the dyno. The best is to have your injectors flow tested and then have the trims matched to the max ecm value of the injectors installed, you will have a smooth idling and pulling engine with 40 to 50 hp ore than stock.

we have sent them down the road without changing the trim files, you will have to go in and correct this if the customer comes back with a low power complaint or rough idle issue. usually if you go to truck.cat.com you can put that number in and it will tell you the sixteen digit number. if not on the disc you can download straight from that site. givin you have a cat sign on.......if not.....let me know and send me the number and i can send you the trim file that you need. jon

Will my password for SIS work on that site or is that a different subscription? I'll have to check it out on Monday. I don't work for a Cat certified dealer. I'm a diesel mechanic for a private company. So your saying that I can use the 7 digit and 4 or 5 digit #'s to get a 12 digit # to select from the list of trim codes on the cd's that came with the new injectors? Just trying to learn as much as I can here and do things right.

Send a message via AIM to Dutch
You need the all full injector number to get the correct trim file for the injector.

im saying that if you have password to get onto sis that you can go to the bottom right side corner where it says files and software and find what you need, then download onto a flashfile and take it out to the truck and download into the ecm. your sis password should work. jon

Ok thanks. I'll check it out this week. I hope I can do some good with the numbers that are on these new injectors that are installed already. Just stumped why they dont have the 12 digit code on them.
