As far as I know. The 3.9L is basically a 5.9L with two cylinders lobbed out of the middle.

Correct, Many of the delivery vans that had 3.9 in them use a turbo 400 automatic transmission if it was a GM van body. Check with some of the guy that part them out and you could go that rout but I would think the RE47 or RH47 would be a better choise. That will just depend on how much power you are looking for.

Ok I will give a quick run down on what I am wanting to do when I can. The wife and I have a 98 chevy blazer it is her daily driver and when it is paid off we are going to look into getting something else for her and I am wanting to put a 4bt in it. I am not looking for a big power house I will be keeping the IFS for ride quality and I am looking for good millage if possible I no nothing about these little motors. The blazer will become my daily driver and hunting rig nothing crazy on power for now just a fun little vehicle to drive and get good millage I have the truck for the crazy . I also have no idea what trans is in the blazer so that info wold help also thanks

Does the blazer have a 4 or 6 cylinder? A 4.3 V6 gas motor can make very good power.

You do realize that a 3.9 or a 5.9 is taller and may not fit that easy. I have seen a 3.9 in a Dodge D50 but the guy just took the sheet metal and put it on a 1st gen rolling chassie after he shortened the frame. He had to add block between the frame and the body mounts and it was ok but why not just trick out a Standard Cab Long bed into a SCSB? If you are wanting a lighter vehicle then start with a 1500 SCSB. Think about it unless you are willing to spend many hours doing hard work that will not return all you spend on it. And just think about trying to find parts.

I see what you are saying but I like a challenge . I want to do the blazer because it wold be different and I want a diesel in it for the millage it wont be a big power house and as far as the height of the motor I wold not be against a body lift and a custom hood. The blazer as it sits now has a 4.3 in it and does great as far as power and getting it done goes I just want something different.

Thanks for the ideas and advice guys keep them coming this project is still at least a year or 2 off but it never hurts to start researching early
