I have a 1990 2wd dodge w350 with a 12 valve cummins in it. I bought it right and it ran a little off but i figured it was just from sitting so much. I drove it for about to weeks and it never cleared up and then on my way home from work one day i stopped to get fuel and noticed a big puddle under my truck. the injection pump was leaking horribly from the throttle shaft. It was gonna cost 1300 to get my pump gone through.

So then i found a 96 cummins for sale nearby and want to swap motors. i have the motor in the barn now started to tear apart my truck. The wiring and fuel systems are obviously different. Plus the 96 was bolted up to an automatic.

So with that being said before i get too terribly far i was curious if the cranks have the same bolt pattern so i can bolt my flywheel up to the 96 to use my getrag 5 speed. Also i was wondering if i could use the original fuel tank out of my truck instead of using the 96 style fuel tank. Plus i was wondering if i could get rid of most of the wiring on the 96 and if so what all can i get rid of. Or do i really need the computer system out of the 96.

the only real difference in two engines is you old one is a ve pump and the new one is a p pump both are non computerized engines the only elec you have to keep is the fuel shut off solenoid and relay other wise all will interchange and fit

It will all work out. do the killer dowel pin mod to the '96 while you have it out, It may save you a lot of time and money. I would also replace any gaskets that may look ****ty, like oil pan, or rimming cover gasket

couldn't agree more do the kdp I have the procedure to do it if you need it

and you will have to do the timing cover for that and make sure you put in new valve cover gaskets on 5&6 will be a pia after this is done

That helps out a lot. I have read some on the kdp. I would like to take care of it as well does it cost much to do that. And if you could i would appreciate it if you would send the procedure to me.

I also have another question on transmissions. I found a 5 speed trans out of a 2000 dodge 24 valve. I was thinking about getting it and putting it in since basically all i have to do is pull the motor out for the guy and i can have all the parts for the trans to use on my truck.

Would that be a good upgrade for my truck? Also my getrag needs some work and i thought it would be cheaper for now to use the other trans and if its better and has some issues i'd rather fix it. The truck its coming out of ran and drove fine but was wrecked.

yes the trans wold be and upgrade the nv4500 is by far a better trans

You will need a left-handed-dumafletchie at some point. Take the wrecked truck.

I guess i should have said it ran and drove fine before it was wrecked. Truck still ran but the guy folded the front axle up considering it totaled.

Just get as much of the transmission parts as you can (hoses, wires, and all) even if you don't think you will need it, get them you can allways sale the stuff you don't need later.
