DT466E, 466 swap

International 4900 with a 466E and Allison MD3060. The engine started getting water in the oil which is a common problem, but the owner decided he didn't want to put more money into the engine since he had already put 3k in it to fix some other issues 3 months earlier. Found a 1996 DT466 mechanical and said can you make it run with this engine I think it will save me money in the long run. THAT'S where I made my mistake, of course we can make it run but making it drive and operate properly is a whole other issue. So since I didn't tell him no way am I touching that thing, he drops off a 466 which looks a lot like an E but has a mechanical injection system on it. We put it in and yeah it runs but the transmission won't even shift into gear.

Have not been able to find much info about an MD3060 behind a mechanical engine online. Talked to a guy that said he had seen a few electronic transmissions behind a mechanical engine. Need a throttle position sensor which we have but I'm not sure if there should be another module (interface module).

Now the owner found a 653 that he thought maybe we should put in the truck. I don't think he would be happy with that because from my understanding that doesn't have an overdrive.

If anybody can point me in the right direction to make this nightmare end it would be appreciated. I told him that I should have insisted on putting an E back in it but hindsight is always better.

Well it may be the conversion section, but its mostly putting an engine in a different chassis that it didn't originally contain. Check out the Md section there might be some help in there for swapping mechanical and electrical 466 engines.

Thanks guys I'll checkout he MD section. I was wondering if people were on sites like this as much as in the past. I noticed that there is a lot of topics and posts that come up in a search from 2-5 years ago but not a lot of current stuff.

Have found some posts and info that says you can make a MD3060 work with a mechanical engine but the wiring diagrams show the TPS wires going to the ECU. With a mechanical engine obviously it doesn't have an ECU. So I'm scratching my head again. Does it need another controller besides the transmission controller it already has, and if it does where do you get one?
