Modern engines from 8-11L

It's been quiet around the site, so here is something to chew on.

Say I got a wild hair loose to do an engine swap.
The class 2/3/4/5 trucks use mostly mid 6L engines. Someone, (Cat?IH?) made a 7.6 or 7.8, maybe......
The class 7/8 trucks are running 13-16L. Not looking or a beast that big.
Thinking is should be common rail (putting on flameproof suit).
Did the DT466/520 ever get past the HPOP era to common rail? 8.5L could get interesting

Yeah, the 6L trucks can easily make 6-700 hp. One guy is pulling with a 600+hp that has a full EPA DPF Yeah, he has won his class a few times too.
