WA. state emissions test on diesels

My 2003' 6.0 Ford powerstroke which is an obd-II vehicle is coming up for its first emissions test (5yrs old). It has some modifications, intake/exhaust/tuning. Has anyone had there newer diesel pickup truck tested yet? How extensive do they go? Are they just doing tailpipe opacity and obd-II rediness checks? Or are they also looking for modifications and failing trucks? Mine runs and burns clean, but I am a bit nervous as to what to expect. Sorry for all the questions, but any input will be welcome.

Tune the truck to stock and roll in, it's a snap throttle test checking for smoke, two quick hits on the throttle and your done and gone:Thumbup:

Thanks outlaw6oh. Just a few clicks to the left and its back to stock tune when the time comes. Again thanks for the piece of mind. I was starting to have visions of trying to put my stock exhaust back together, etc.

The whole visual inspection thing is a California deal. Lets hope that never comes to the northwest. What it looks like is irrelevant anyway.

Looks like this thread is old, but have the same question. I am due for inspection on my 05 F350 in Feb 2010, in two months. I purchased my used truck and the previous owner installed a 4'' MBRP Turbo Back exhaust with no CAT.

Will I pass without a Converter? My truck is lifted so I'm paranoid they duck down and see that there isnt one. So for now, I'm actively looking for a used CAT I can purchase so I can throw it on if needed.

Just not sure if I should initially take a chance to see if it passes without it. Also, don't want to get fined either!

ebusa, if you are talking about WA state, you have nothing to worry about, unless your rolling coal out the tailpipe like a drag race truck. They don't look for anything missing or test for any codes, only a stationary tailpipe test, they call it an opacity test, they have you rev the engine 3-times while the probe is in the tailpipe, thats it. I am due for another test in 2010, my last test passed with flying colors. Harry

I turned 21
I would just get a 12-18 inch long section of some 8-10 inch diameter stove pipe, and if your a good welder or know one just put it together over the exhaust you're running now, fill in the gap between the exhaust and the stove pipe, and from the outside it's doubtful anyone who would care could tell the difference.

negative ghost rider, they also stick the obd II port and check for egr function as well. I just took my emissions test a couple months ago and they hooked me up first then did the snap throttle test.
I wouldn't worry too much about the cat though they never looked for mine even though I'm running a stack and is missing, in fact the little lady doing my test seemed pretty knowledgeable on the 6.oh no and was talking to me about my truck before testing it.

They must have changed the testing procedure, because my last test in 08' they never plugged into my obd2 port. So I wonder how they check for egr, does it do an activation test or are they just looking for egr fault codes? Could be a mess for the egr delete crowd in this state. Thanks for the update Outlaw. Harry

I believe they do a function on/off test, as my valve is still plugged in the truck but the system is non functioning. I know I was sweating bullets.
