Winch advice

So I decided I want a winch. I have Road Armor stealth bumpers.

I'm debating between a Warn XD9000i and a Warn PowerPlantHP 9.5.

I like the idea of on-board air and the price considering what I see on-board air systems going for. Those of you will any experience with this please help me out. Should I stick with a straight winch, go with the dual purpose or maybe look at even bigger winches?

What do you plan on doing with the winch?

I keep thinking about getting one, I know I won't go with anything less than a 12K lb capacity, but my truck weighs a good bit more than yours.

The pig has gained a bit of weight. Since I have one street screamer I want this one to be a bit more utilitarian. It's not an off-roader but I would like to be able to self-recover. Plus my truck looks goofy with that huge hole where the winch mounts.

I just found the bigger Warns as well. I was going by the recommendations of what fits in the Road Armor. It looks like anything winch with a standard bolt pattern can go in there. I like the idea of being able to use a pulley block to get a 2:1 on the line. I don't like the idea of pulling 400+ amps.

I did find a 12K Smitty pretty cheap. I had a little Smitty on my Jeep a long time ago. I was leaning heavily toward the Warn because it's made here.

Your defiantly going to want either a minimum 12k or 15k+ pound winch.
Here's a warn 12Klb that gives you both a winch and air compressor in one.

I was looking at those as well. I'm not sold the idea of a dual purpose. I looked into the other companies that make them and both of the other companies discontinued those products. It also looks like I can go Viair and have on-board air and a winch for less money. I'm hoping someone chimes in that has experience with those PowerPlant models.

I tend to over engineer everything I do. I decided on the Warn 16.5K just because I knew sometime down the road, when I finally had my truck setup the way I wanted, that it would close in on the 10K weight. Too close for a 10-12K winch capacity for me. Batteries, alternator and cables are in place to handle the draw. Air compressor will be separate. Everything functional for onroad use.

I just found a Smittybilt 12K for under $400. I'm not getting any heavier, save maybe 40 pounds for on-board air.

Well, the Smitty was too good to pass. I looked all day and the only way to find a better deal was to look for a used model. I will post pics when I get it.
