Anyone know...03polaris 500 CV Joint

My Dad's cv joint went out on his 0'something polaris. It's the back right and making a metal to metal noise. I think he might have mud in his boot instead of grease? Is this a hard job to tackle? He's scared to even start, I toled him I'd come over and tear it apart but don't know if I need any specialty tools? I heard from mechanic you need a clip/ring remover?

It isn't bad at all. I can do it and I am not mechanically inclined.

No special tools required. There is a ring inside that holds the joint on the shaft. You can not get to it with anything you just tap the joint off the shaft, and thats it.
