Hey there I am new to this site and also new to a diesel truck. I have a 03 6.0l and I am looking at getting a tuner, I was wanting some thoughts from you folks on witch of the 2 tuners is better or another one???? I will mainly be pulling my 36ft 5th wheel camper and some fun driving, but I am not going to be draging or anything like that.

Thanks

Well my reccomendation is going to be the same as 95% of the others that will tell you which is better, so I will let them say it, I just want to say you would regret it if you put an Edge on an 03. Trust me, if you drive like most of us do you will be breaking very important and expensive parts

SCT Xcal2 tuner, there is nothing better for the 6.0. Highest Hp, best tranny controls, best tunning avalable...Live data logging, data streaming, code reading and clearing...

I recommend Elite Diesel...

like joe said, sct is the ONLY way to go

I agree with them. SCT is the only way to go! LIPD can also offer good tunes for your 6.0L and their service is awesome. They have treated me great!

Just thinking about the Juice w/ Attitude and it's shift flares makes me want to barf!!!! LOL

Go with Superchips Flashpaq 1805 or a SCT tuner. I have the 1805 and it is soooo much better than the edge ever was. Shifting is excellent, firm and quick, and the response and power is noticably better.

Okay since I am new to all this and I want to get the what is good. I will mostly be pulling trailer with my truck and for right now my truck is bone stock no gauges or anything.

In doing some research I see the edge platnium has defueling, monitering system for tranny, a whole list of things, also changing settings while driving.

In reading through this thread I see the favor is SCT over anything.. How come????? Does the sct change setting on the move, if not is it an easy process to change the setting. I see in one of the threads that somebody had 9 different programs on there computer that they could up load to the tuner can you do that?

I do like the black smoke idea when you nail it.
Keep in mind this will be the only tuner that I would buy, I see some of you change, and I will not be able to do that so I want to get what is right.

:thanks:

the reason the sct is the only way to go is because of all the things the tuners (we) can change. It will make more power, drive better, shift better and be faster than a EDGE, if you like smoke we cna make it smoke, if you want it cleen we can make it clean. If you like a very soft shift we can do it, if you want a shift so firm it breaks your neck it can be done
I have ran many boxes/tuners on my truck and NOTHING comes close

Well my problem with the SCT is that you cant change the settings in the cab at will. I would like to be able to change it from gas saving mode to tow mode or kick butt mode without getting out of the car and opening the hood. I dont want to run around all day on a race tune, I want to be able to change the levels with the push of a button.

If not edge then what? I am looking for one that has a monitor like the A2 or the Bully Dog PMT. The livewire still wont allow you to change settings on the fly. Is there a reason why SCT has neglected to offer this? Sure having the baddest race tune is great, but why not offer the ability to change levels without popping the hood?

yes i do sell SCT's but i pushed them before i even sold them, the good thing asbout the sct is they usually get best milage in the race (insanity) setting
robert
maybe the reason they don't sell a adjustable on the fly monitor is they know they have a good product that sells, edge and many other bank on there name and advertising, you advertise junk enough people will think hey i see it everywere it must be good
just my openion

Dont get me wrong I am not knocking SCT in any way. I am pretty certain they are more than likely the best.

You do have to agree that a tow tune is not the best race tune? And a race tune is not the best good mpg tune? They cant be, therefore have to be somewhat different in order to maximize the output for different situations.

So when I say adjustable on the fly, i dont believe this is a cheap gimmick that should only be found on home built tuners. I think this serves a purpose for anyone and would expect it to be on the very best of tuners. I believe SCT could capture even more of the market if this was an option. I acctually feel that its a sign of cheapness to have to get out of your car to change something computer related, when in this day in age we have the capability of changing tunes via cell phone if we so wish.

I would love to hear from an SCT rep what their thoughts are.......just curious, not bashing as I believe from what ive read that they are the king.

Changing power on the fly worked ok on the trucks that weren't so electronically controlled, but even those trucks worked much better with the Chips, rather than Modules. On the 6.0, there is no port for a chip. Programming is the only way to fully control the computers(s). You simply cant' change fueling and nothing else. When you change fueling, you add power. Adding extra power requires changes to the transmission tuning to accomodate.

With the SCT, both the engine computer and the transmission computer are reprogrammed. This will keep the transmission from slipping and causing premature wear.

Any of us customer tuning SCT dealers can help you make the right decision on which programs to run. By the way, changing programs requires less than a minute and is a simple plug and play unit under the dash. No need to get out of the drivers seat.

Not a all out race tune but a insanity file that locks in 4th and 5th has netted me my best milage over and over again. It is not the best tune but it is the tune i like towing on.

It is nice being able to adjust on the fly but ask people who run them, if your running around in the "milage" tune and crank it up to "extream" at a stop light the trans will wigout

i had the edge and i really liked the idea of changing my tune on the fly.... but it really didnt... lets say i went to level 5, it would fall on its face when it was shifting... terribly to the point it destroyed my suncoast tranny... there was no tranny program involved and it just plain sucked... so i go and get an SCT i can run it on the highest tune and have NO issues, i can also get good fuel milage out of that tune as long as i keep my foot out of the throttle. the shifting is the best i have ever seen in one of these trucks even over stock...in the end yeah i sort of miss the on the fly capability but would never look back after experiencing the SCT

i have the edge if anyone is interested.....

So, if a guy has a 6 speed, how is there a big advantage to the SCT vs the Edge? If all a guy is trying to do is program the engine and not the tranny do you lose the benefit of the SCT?

the sct will still make more power, and have more asjustable fetures
but a edge will be better for a 6speed than it is a auto, i would still recomend a sct and a set of guages

I do appreciate all the input and I do understand what you are saying.

Let me ask you all another question.

Since I have quite honestly read alot of bad stuff about the Edge and the tranny. I have not read anything of this nature with Bully Dog and the tranny.
Or are you saying that everything except SCT sucks and will ruin my motor or tranny.

Thanks,

FiveseveN

i have heard deacent things about bully dog, but nothing will be as good for the trans as SCT that is just a fact
