Can any body tell me if the edge juice is any good for towing or should i get the sct that every body is talking about. Also can i change the trans and torqe with it. i will not change it for a while but it will be good to know. Also the turbo and maybe the injectors.

i used to have the Edge with the Attitude. It was fun but many people consider it a Trans killer. I didnt hammer my truck and kept the setting at level 2 so I wasnt throwing alot to it all the time. Therefore, I had no problems with mine. The advantage of the EDGE is that its a complete package, power, (5 setting you can change on the fly) all the guages you need are on the monitor. The trans settings are very limited . I changed to an SCT and The performance is so much better than the EDGE. Much better trans control and most feel its much much safer way to add power and control the trans VRS any of the modules like the EDGE. I wont go back . I have one to sell though.

If you are going to do an Edge, do the Juice Platinum. I think even those who favor the Juice will suggest that.

That being said I have just sold my Edge stuff. I had weird things on my 03 when I towed with my Juice. Specifically the CAC tubes would blow off. Seemed like when I pulled a grade under light throttle my turbo would spool back and forth untill POP.

It may just be a problem with my 03 strategy or it may be the edge.

There are a ton of options on the Edge and I am not sure I had it configured properly however I sold it in favor of an SCT from DJ.

I think Edge has the best product design (from an ergonomic or looks perspective), all their stuff looks sexy, I also like the adjustability to decide I need race mode at a stoplight and can switch instantly. I also like all the gauges you have with just one programmer.

I will update after I get my SCT installed and can compare contrast. From all the posts on here though, I am sure I will be happy.
Thanks
Dennis

I like the Edge Platinum that I have and I tow all the time with it. I should copy and paste the following because I say it so often. If you think your truck is a race truck and need to beat everybody in the next lane and blow black smoke all over them get the SCT, it is a good unit for those purposes. However if you think your truck is for hauling stuff and towing trailers then I would suggest the Edge Platinum. It has all the needed gauges built in, easy to setup and remove, leaves no "footprint" for the dealer to see, can be changed on the fly, has all the canned programs installed and does not seem to suffer the need for new tunes for every new flash Ford throws at your truck. Additionally, it seems lately I have read more on this forum of SCT's and puking and now even more trans issues, could be because this is a really SCT friendly board and the Edge owners don't speak up as much.

I have the Edge Platinum and a Powershot 2000 and have towed over 20k on the 06 with zero problems with puking or the trans.

Slip around on this board and see what you read about the two different units then make your own informed decision.

Now if SCT gets the Livewire up and running with all, or most, the goodies the Edge now has I might have to test drive one of those, it may be the best of the best. Any SCT dealers out there up for a loaner for testing?

I will echo most of what LargeCar is saying. The part I made bold is something that seems has perplexed me for a long time.

I will grant you that the SCT is the best out there for controlling the tranny, but once you start using it for power, what is the potential cost?? Headstuds/gaskets?? Seems the cost of a tranny rebuild is pretty close to the cost involved in properly fixing blown headgaskets, so in my mind that is a wash....

Some of the SCT proponents have stated in the past that using the "canned" tunes will not cause puking but until you get to the wild custom tunes, you aren't making as much, let alone more power than is available with the Juice. Plus you don't have the Juice's flexibility (both in the shift-on-the-fly capability and it's ability to be put on without needing a reprogram just because you got reflashed).

The bottom line is, what do you plan to do with your truck?? If you wanna stoplight race, then go for the SCT, no question. If you mainly tow, the Juice is a good unit.

So to get back to your questions:

1) Can you tow with the Juice?? Absolutely!! Been doing it since '03 (and still on my original tranny, btw).

2) Can you use it with the other mods you mentioned?? Probably, but you won't get the max benefit from those expensive parts using it. Plus, by the time you get that far into it, you are most likely gonna need/want to go with new studs/gaskets anyway, so the SCT is what you will need then for sure....

Funny how an officer of the law is talking about stop light racing...:poke:

Show me where I said that I stoplight race...... In fact, read what I said.... If you want to stoplight race, get an SCT. Now, look at my sig.... I have the Juice......

not trying to start an argument, but the homework that I did when researching the SCT showed that the SCT created much less cylinder pressure ( wich can cause head studs stretching ) than most modules . We need one of the tuners to jump in here.

WOW. You got defensive quick.
If you Read MY post you would see that I wasn't accusing you of doing it either. I just find it funny your giving advice to people who do. Thats all.

Not defensive at all. The man asked asked some questions and I answered them. Didn't say I condone such actions (which I don't), nor did I recommend that he do it. Furthermore, what I do for a living is irrelevant to the discussion at hand.

I guess we will agree to disagree, like usual.

I think any discussion of illegal activities shouldn't be done by those who serve and protect. :bounce:

Ahem...any and all personal attacks will end now. Plus any harsh feelings that developed at another site are best left there. :RTFM:

Thanks

I use to have an edge with the attitude mount. Also Had bully dog's tripple dog stacked with it. Towed a goose neck a few times with the edge. The edge does nothing for the transmission. There's no sense adding power with a chip, programmer, box, etc. and towing with it if it doesn't do anything for the transmission. So that's why i smartened up and bought and SCT. The shifting now is unbelievable. The only problem is that i now have a $800 edge box that is collecting dust. I should have bought the SCT in the first place.

Strokin,

I was in the same boat, had the edge thought it was cool The SCT performs so much better. The " trans control " that the edge has isnt like what an SCT will do . I also have an edge collecting dust.

I'll cut you a deal. I'll sell it to you for half price just to get rid of it. Whatda say?

#18 ·
Maybe i can sell it to some poor sucker who has never heard of SCT
