Hi this is my first post here. I have been reading and looking at everyones posts for a while now as a guest and now i need some advice. I found a 2001 dodge regular cab with a 6speed it is of couse the lengendary 5.9 Cummings. the truck looks like its in mint condition. i can afford to buy it but when i do cant afford to fix anything on it for at least a year(it will take me that long to save anything that might put a dent in parts for it, i can do repairs myself which is good). the truck only has 85k on it. an older man about 55 owned it. he never pulled alot with it just his camper and boat. I pretty sure its never been chiped or had a power program on it. Its all stock.

Do you all think it will give me a couple years of trouble free service.:thanks:

Welcome to TDG!!!

Well i have an 01 and have never really had any problems other then a slipping auto. Take a look at the truck, check for codes and report them back. To do the key trick turn it on/off/on/off/on without starting the truck and watch the odometer window. It will bring up codes if there are any. I would have fuel preasure checked and at least replace the lift pump if it is below 10psi at idle. Other then that just look for leaks, or any wierd noises. You should have to problems with it. Is it a 4x4 or 4x2 truck?

4x4

4X4. i alredy checked it for codes every thing was ok. i havent jacked up the front end to check ball joints but with 85k on it and never really towing a heavy load much i think it should be ok.

I loved mine, and after relocating to lift pump back by the tank, I never had a fuel pressure problem. Mine had 180k on it when I got the death code(s) for the injection pump. never had any tranny problems, even with the Edge EZ hooked up. You should be fine, just install a fuel pressure gauge.

I have the gauge pod, tow mirrors, and the Edge ez for sale on this site under the Dodge parts store.

Make sure the six speed is what you want. mine is the five speed and my roomate owns a truck like what you have described after driving both of them i would not trade him for anything unless all i did was pull, the gears are just to close for me.

They Cut me such a deal couldnt pass it up. the ball joints were replace do to recall at 33000 and the lift pump was replace at 55000. figured that was the biggest concern so nowing this made me feel alot better. thanx guys for all the help. i got one more big question 4 ya ill start a new thread for that

The track bars aren't too strong either had mine done at 45k and I am about do again, just a heads up. Like they all said, as long as you f/p is good you will be in good shape.

What more can be said? I love mine.
My company has some of the newer trucks from dodge 2006 and 2007 too quiet. I think if you buy the truck you will love it the only Major problems have been talked about in the above posts. 1.I forget the block casting number but one was prone to cracking at the block. I think it was the "53" block but don't quote me on that. 2. lift pump problems easy to mod and fix. 3. Keep the vp44pump well lubed and the fuel pressure above 7 psi and you should have no problems( I like a higher fuel pressure but cummins says 7 psi is enough with good flow) 4. some folks complain about the front end. I have had no problems with mine except for normal wear and tear. I like to think it was more a tire problem than anything else. Enjoy your new truck and above all have fun drive the heck out of it and enjoy the big grin on your face.
