Ok so my buddy has an 2001 2500 and he wants to get a chip and he wasn't sure what to get he was thinking about a bully dog. are they any good? if not what would be a good chip to get? thanks for the help

Short answer, there are better chips for the 24v than bully dog IMO. What does he want to do with the truck, how much power does he want and what kind of trans does he have? I would recommend an Edge box, either the drag comp, or a juice w/A. does he have gauges already? The new quadzilla adrenaline box should be pretty sweet though once they get the bugs worked out of it. I'd give that one a little while since its just now being released to the public.

he has a manual and is going to get a clutch. I'm not to sure power wise what he wants i just said that i would see what was out there and which ones where better.

I would go with the boxes listed above, they are all adjustable on the fly and add timing as well as fueling. Other boxes, like the edge EZ or the TST PM3 are good boxes but don't do both fueling and timing. The PM3 is a really aggressive fueling box, stacked with a timing box, it should yield some pretty nice numbers.

There is a lot of choices...

For stacked power the TST and a Smarty were the most popular...

Edge Comp / Attitude is the favor now..

Smarty isn't bad... Great for timing...

For basic power there is Super Chips programmer...

You can stack a Edge Comp a Smarty too (Without timing on the Smarty)...

I can go on and on...

I have used both a Quadzilla Standard 120HP chip (3 stage) and just now got my Juice w/Attitude installed. The Quadzilla has been a good-running chip but I REALLY like my Juice. It's a better performer and fuels sooner than the Quad.
Right now I have both modules connected so I can do comparison tests, but am careful to run one or the other in stage 0. As you can see from my sig, my truck is mostly stock although I don't know what the previous owner has done to it performance-wise. Last night I used the Attitude to do some 0-60 tests and it proved the difference between the 2 chips. Because of the stock tranny I normally don't get very aggressive with it and even last night I babied it just a little while doing the tests. Even so, the Quadzilla in stage 2 netted a 11 second 0-60. The Juice in stage 3 came in at 8.9 seconds. This is with an outside temperature of 25 degrees, cold road and cold tires. With both chips, the main problems were the tires not hooking up and the tranny not shifting quickly enough to take advantage of the power. As you can imagine, the Juice is gonna be the one I'm keeping, but in all reality they're both good modules for the money.

I have the Edge Juice with Attitude on my 01 and I love it. Not to sure about these other programmers but this is good for the money plus you have your gauges.. Good luck

If your buddy is looking at these posts and is confused but has money. Just tell him to buy both the Smarty and Edge Comp. They'll stack alright if you put the smarty on a fuel only tune. Then put a brick underneath the accelerater pedel so he doesn't nuke the VP44.

It's not the VP44 that will nuke... It the clutch or the torque convert that will for sure nuke!!!

Been there... Tried that! My truck would spin the clutch with a Smarty on level 8 (no timing) and my Edge Comp on 5x5... Just squeeze the throttle and the clutch could not hold the power at all!!!

It put me well over the 400+ HP range... I'm currently right at 381/826 with a Edge comp...
