Recently had my truck in for a leak in the rear left side. At first I thought it was brake fluid. Dealer said it was an axle seal. On one hand I thought I just saved some work as I was going to drain and replaced axle fluid at my next oil change. But then I thought, is this going to be an ongoing problem. I am on my third Ford Super Duty and have not had a problem with any of the previous 2.
I have just under 19K miles. I was going to fix my add-on backup lights when I saw the left rear covered with fluid. At first I thought brake fluid as I never, ever had an axle seal go bad. But the dealer said it was a bad seal.
Have you had the truck off road a good bit? And I mean has the axle been submerged in water or mud such as crossing a creek or mud-bogging? My axle seals would go up on my old Cherokee from such extravaganzas...
Mine is leaking also.. Its going in next week 25000 KM's on it so I have to assume its jsut a one of flaw
