What to do...suggestions?

So I am at a crossroad here with my 04.5 2500. The trans is pretty tired and will have to be fixed in the immediate future. It may just be clutches, which would be nice, but thats not my luck. Anyway, I have read other threads about guys/gals getting $15k off the sticker on new trucks. I would really like a new '09 3500 single wheel 6 speed, and could probably pick one up for a good price now with the economy. If I put a trans in my truck now, I feel that I would be going past the point of no return. I feel that if I were to spend this money, I might as well keep it for another 5 years to get my moneys worth out of the trans. I'm sure down the road the turbo, injectors, CP3 would all have to be replaced. It would be nice to get a new truck with a warranty.

Sorry for the long post. What would you guys do?

This is a tough choice to make since, you are going to get much better mileage out of your 5.9 than what a stock 6.7 can do. You said a truck with warranty would be nice so I would take it that doing the deletes to get the mileage back would be out. With that being said the 6.7 is one heck of a motor and I have very happy with mine. The 6spd auto and factory exhaust break are also nice additions. take a look at all your options before just jumping.

I'm just guessing by your sig that you don't really care all that much about warranty, or you have a pretty cool dealer. This is pretty early to say to much, but I'd bet I'm getting in the 20's for mpg with a one ton dually. I'm deleted with a smarty, and the 12me program is getting some kick ***** milage. Like I said it's a little early cause I've only ran it for 2 or 3 days with the new 12me, but I can tell it's good. I guess it is kind of tough desision, but I'm happy with my 6.7, and I guess I have a somewhat cool dealer also.

Tom i have to totally agree with what neel and fuzzy both said not just because i wanna hipe up the 6.7 but i will say i have debated on getting rid of mine before now i have fallen in love again 23k since i have deleted everything and no problems. I wish i would have done what eazy(Dom)did when i bought mine and then it would be almost 50k no prob he deleted at less than a 1k i think and he went to 88k before it got totaled. Hope this helps

If I bought a new truck, it would remain stock so that the warranty was intact. I learned my lesson with this truck and will not go through that again. The dealers around me are not mod friendly really, and the ones that are don't exist anymore. Thanks for the replies men.

That is tough then. I would still go with a new one personally. The stock 6.7 has come a long way since 07.5, and I don't think they are as much of a pain as they used to be. Just run the living dog crap out of it, and it should be fine. Just my .02 worth.:thumbsup

I would probably get a 6.7 the way thing are going the new trucks now might be the best we get for awhile. Also I believe edge has come out with there new chip that turns the DPF off but it stays on the truck which could help with warranty problems :happymugs

WHAAAT??????
How could you turn the dpf off, and leave it on the truck? Not calling you a liar, but I can't figure out how it could be done. DPF=Big soot trap, and it's still going to trap soot if it still on, so how could you turn it off, and have it have no ability to try and clean itself out with a regen. I'm just curious, and haven't heard of this yet. Maybe you could post a link.

I will have to ask around and see for sure what they meant. I live in Ogden where edge is and somebody told me that. But now that you guys say that it don't make sense :wedgie

Imho both ways are good routes to go, good dealand warranty for 6.7 but worse mpg and/or reliability. Or reliable 5.9 with no warranty and better mpg. Hmmmmm. Its a catch 22 but if I was you I'd get the tranny, turbos ect and run the 5.9 but I'm kind of a hp junky. and from your truck to a new one not much has changed interior exterior wise. In fact I think the older cabs are nicer.

Another this is, I don't know how stuck you are on a dodge or how hard you are on your truck or anything but I know if I was buying a new truck and leaving it stock it would be a duramax.

My buddy said the same thing. I like the Dodge personally so I would most likely stick with that. I honestly have never even considered the Chevy.
