my goal was to make the unit look "factory" but also
keep it outta view from at least the DRIVERS window (when
standing outside lookin' in) either by cops or crack head theives.

the other goal was to AVOID having to reach for the mute...
sometimes thats a dead give away, even when you HIDE the
detector on the wind shield...that all too familar "MUTE-REACH"
is well known by cops.

i dont CURRENTLY live in a state where detectors are illegal but
i still dont want ANYONE following me (because they see i have a
detector)....I often drive in a state where detectors are illegal and
i dont want any signs that im running a detector either.

w/ the 99-04 superduty (f250/f350/+) their is NOT enough room
behind the dash for the entire remote display...i had to trim the
pcb (removing the remote mute button) so the display would
fit.

Main Unit Location (using remote display) --->

NEWLY PLACED...REMOTE BUTTON (drivers door, where
drivers hand naturally falls while driving) --->

NEWLY PLACED...CUSTOMIZED Remote Display (note pcb cut &
mute button removed so that remote display would fit behind dash) -->

Couple of Wide Shots (dash mounted remote display & main unit
above visor) --->

Russ - Sorry i dont understand whats IP ?

FWIW one of the switches in the removeable knee panel
powers the VALENTINE ONE...i NEVER have to reach up
to turn the detector on or off...which is a dead give away
(to a cop) that youve got a detector.

i reach DOWN (slightly) and flick the switch.

RUSS - theres not alot of room behind the dash...to make the V1 remote
display FIT i had to pull the display apart and CUT the circuit board...i
removed the original mute button/switch thats on the circuit board...

theres plenty of depth just not alot of width or height w/ all the
a/c ducting/vents.

Aaron - Good to see you again too.

FWIW this is what the REMOTE DISPLAY looks like <before someone
hacks it up ;)

and heres a photo of where i USED to have it mounted (in the cubby)
w/ the wire run thru a hole...again to make sure it was a clean install...

COOL ! One of my threads has been RESTORED !

I always did like this one, Don. Everything on the interior of your rig is run so clean, and I envy the ones that take the time to do it right. *Do it right the first time, and you never have to do it again*:thumbsup

Whats the little box on the visor? Hands free mic?
thats the microphone for Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT (blue tooth).

my cell phone (blackberry) is "paired" to the pioneer head unit,
so i make/recv' HANDS FREE cell phone calls thru the car audio system.

no matter HOW LOUD i have the music i NEVER miss a call, because
the head unit "automatically" mutes the music and lets me know
there is an incoming cell phone call from my blackberry (i can choose
to answer the call, or NOT)...i love the integrated hands free blue tooth
cell phone feature <dont miss any more phone calls because i had the
music "too loud">

The DEH-P980BT also uses the microphone (a little bit different style
one connected to the same "port") to automatically set up the 13 band
parametric equalizer, speaker postioning (time delay) and automatically
set up the sub-woofer "phase" and cross-overs.

the head unit generates "pink noise" and uses the "special" microphone
to automatically configure the head unit...damm thing sets all that
stuff up...in 10 minutes (automatically while you stand outside the truck)

I TIRED and couldnt get all the settings done <or sounding as good> in an
afternoon, much less 10 minutes !

i did it all in an afternoon...wasnt hard to do at all...the hardest part
was cutting the circuit board on the valentine one remote display...
I had to cut the remote display circuit board & face (removing the
mute button) to get it to fit the dash.

you can see the di-section of the remote display HERE

I checked out your amp set up in your photobucket album and man that is some real nice work. I have no idea how you managed to fit 3 amps with wires AND a cardboard/wood platform for them to rest on. My amp just velcros to my carpet and my bass knob is jammed under my steering wheel in the fuse panel cover. lol

#23 ·
I'll start another thread on this too...but know that this stuff
tends to EVOLVE over time for me...the bass control knob was
one that i just couldnt let go...i knew where i wanted it and i
wasnt gonna stop til i figured it out.

The gain knob as it was supplied from the mfg was cut out of its
"box" to get it where it is...and i bet i had the cover off the armrest
4 times thinking i would never be able to get the thing where i wanted
it.
