I have a 1992 ford f350 with the 7.3 diesel in it. I was driving it and then the steering became hard to the right. Now I have power steering to the left but none to the right. I jacked the truck up and checked the steering components and none seem to be sticking or hanging up, and the wheel turns left and right freely while jacked up. But once the weight of the truck is on the tires forget it.

Could be a sticking control valve in power steering box. Has the fluid ever been changed? If not dirt or junk could be floating a round in system and cause a valve to stick. Other then that not sure....

fixed it

I replaced the steering gear as you and others mentioned only to find out it was in the valve on the back of the power steering pump.

Hi again

I have now had to replace both the steering gearbox and the power steering pump to get this issue resolved.
