what's the 4x4's year? If your swapping to another '97 or newer then all you need to do is swap tail-housing from the 2wd to the 4wd. If not then there's a bunch of things you need to do.

A person wanted to buy both the engine and the tranny out of the 97 and put them into his 1990 wrangler. What would he need to do?
Thanks

You'll have to swap the 2wd tail shaft with a 4x4 version of your transmission so you can mate it up to the transfer case. You'll have to make sure you take the electronic control units from the '97 and put them in to the '90. The engine might not fit, so some custom fab engine mounts would be need and a custom transmission crossmember.

OK thanks a lot and one more question. Since the transmission is 2wd can he still use the electronics for that tranny or will he need one from a 4wd vehicle?
Thanks

He can use the 2wd electronics for the transmission.

IIRC, you will need a new tail housing and main shaft.
