This been going on for awhile. Have a friend LOVES my truck (2010 250) wants a new truck and has the "350 bug" bigger is better or what ever.
He (and me) will NEVER haul over 10,000 lb or ever put more than 1k in the bed.
I say a 250 is more than OK and the is no advantage at all going to 350.
Maybe resale but for general useage no extra benefit at all.
They will not be kept until the wheels are ready to fall off so longevity is not an issue.
Any real difference if you ARE NOT hauling/pulling heavy loads?

Definatly go with the 250. As F350R pointed out the license fee will be less. I see you are a Californian so it will make a big difference. If he are only going to use it as you state, then the 250 will be more than enough truck for him.

all the brakes, bearings, axles (except DRW), engines, trans, frame are the same the only difference is the F350 should sit 2" higher in 4x4 (I think they sit the same height) according to the ford spec book. The badge is different

I mass. a truck over 10k GVW (the newer F350) the inspection fee is $115 if it is 9999 GVW or less (F250) the inspection fee is $29
