I picked up a basket case truck that has a B model 3406 that has supposedly been "turned up"
After getting the broken oil pan replaced, (someone set the engine on the pan) I got it running, everything appears & sounds very good, the plan is to put the engine in my 60's Peterbilt this winter, but before install I'd like to go through a few things while they are easy to access,
The question I have is the turbo, it is part# OR-6951, unfortunately my google foo is not bringing up much information on this turbo,
With the cold side housing off I can feel a little more play than I'd like, seems the most budget friendly option would be a new cartrage & put it together, but in all my searching I'm not finding anything for that option,
So I decided to look into different turbos, seems the OR-6051 might do the sane job, but without knowing what I have originally it's hard to say if that will be a good fit,
Anyone have any knowledge on the 6951 they could share? Or possibly have any suggestions what direction I should go?
If it is any help the engine is 7FB77486
& will be swapped to a WJC to fit in the narrow nose truck,
The truck normally runs highway hauling a couple off road rigs & a camper
Usually grossing under 50k.

Doing a little more digging today, it looks like OR-6951 may be the part number for the cartridge itself, & this turbo is likely what would have been on the 425 HP 3406.
If anyone can confirm this I'd appreciate the help.

Looks like engine came out in an 86 peterbilt. Not getting as much detail about as usual for some reason. OR-6950 is a cartridge though. I would say if it was the turbo that came with it when you got it, it was likely what someone was using on it. Before you go giving an arm and a leg for a Cat cartridge , do a search on Borg Warner 177148. It would be the ticket for your app. A or 6051 is ok but laggy and smokey til it gets wound up. I would n't want one for your application myself. I do run a 6051 but it is a completely different deal grossing 80-90K. Cat does show that to be an ataac engine. Too bad you couldn't come up with a cooler for it. For what it would cost to retrofit the engine to wjac I imagine you could have a charge cooler made to fit and solve alot of headaches in reverse engineering things. Good luck with your project and welcome. It is pretty dead around here anymore. Cryin shame.

I agree, bulletin board forums were the best for technical information, & discussion, unfortunately places like Facebook & Instagram has all but killed off the old forums.

One thing about it, there's still a lot of good information hidden in these pages,
I continued digging & found basically what you suggested, the 177148 would work well for what I'm doing, so I actually have one coming,

As for cost on charge air coolers, I picked up a complete core engine pretty cheap & it had everything I needed, (except the right size turbo)
