I just sold my 98' 24 valve five speed and bought an 01' 3500 4x4 six speed. I am not very happy with the 14.4 mpg I am getting with the 01' compared to the 17-18 I was getting with my 98'. Correct me if I am wrong but I think the axles on this truck are dana 70, and judging by the 2400 r.p.m. at 70 mph I have somewhere around 4.10 gears. The rear axle says dana but no tags or castings tell me what model. I would like to put 3.73 gears in the truck to help with the fuel economy as this is a daily driver. Any suggestions and info would be great. Thanks, Nathan

I think all 3500's and all manuals came with dana 80's. I think the 70's were for 2500 automatics.

I think your right about the 4.10's. I would even consider 3.55s You have a six speed so there is plenty of low gears. I have 3.55's w/ 35" tires (about equal to 3.14's w/ stock tires plus the weight) and with my 5-speed It hits 2,000rpm at 75mph, and still has plenty of low end.
