My dad has a 99 2500 4wd w/24v. What is the best chip or programmer for the money? We put a power pup on and fuel econ went to crap. I've noticed most other cost from 400 to about 1000. Ford chips and programmers are from 200. on up. So what should I go with? :usflag

look at the edge pro comp, drag, edge stuff is good, smarty is the way to go in my opinion, it's good because you can just add timing, which will help with the economy

There so no one best box each truck responds different to each box but here are a couple boxs or programs i would look at. I would look for a used edge comp. They have 5 main levels and 5 sub-levels to give you 25 levels that you can used to change how the truck fuels and how much power it adds. Edge Comp adds 120hp. The SMARTY is also another option, and a good one but it does have a couple problems it only adds 65hp for between $500 used to $650 new and it is not adjustable on the fly. Also the smarty pulls hard below 2000rpm but does not pull as hard above 2000rpm, Yes I have owned a SMARTY. You may want to look at a box from quadzilla. Their new boxs are USB updatable from their website. Also TST makes a nice fuel only box that can add 65 to 180hp with the compaition version.

What are you wanting to use the truck for? Towing I would go with a Comp b/c it is adjustable on the fly. For Daily Driving I would recomend a SMARTY. I have both on mine and love every minute of it! Remember it's like most things, you get what you pay for! Superchip also has a decent programmer, I had one but it wasnt enough for me...

I don't guess i have ever heard of a power pup for these trucks...

I run the edge juice/attitude and love it, but if you want mechanical guages then there is the comp box. Aside from edge, just about every company has a box for these trucks. I would suggest that you avoid superchips if you could, not saying they are a bad product, its just that once you grow out of one they don't stack on anything. Thats what is good about a smarty, they can stack on about any box later on. You also need to consider how much power the transmission will hold. Some trucks can't hold a box that taps the injection pump and some are fine with it.

if your steering clear of banks your doing good!

well i will be the first one in thist thread to say that the edge comp and drag comp are way overrated. when i was choosing a power adder for my truck everyone said the same thing that they are now. then i found bluechip. my bluechip apb lets me run a stock setting or i can adjust my power level up to 100 more horse to the rear wheel with a simple turn of a dial mounted to my dash. i havnt seen anyone make over 100 rear wheel horsepower with a edge comp box, besides everyone runs and edge boxes so i would go diffrent. but this is just one guys openion. good luck.

Well I happen to be one person that made more than 100 HP with a Edge Comp and a few other mild bombs...

I enjoy the Edge Comp for the power it got. The problem is the setting... 1-3 in the sub level are de-fueled modes so there is no addition timing till you leave the de-fuel mode (20,15,10 PSI of boost respectively).

I typically have to run 4x4 to my best fuel mileage... This way I stay out of de-fuel mode and get nearly the most amount of timing... But I got to take my lead foot out of my boot...:sly:

What transmission does it have in it? Keep in mind that if you run one of these really aggressive boxes you will need to do supporting mods. If you have an auto, you will need to do at least a converter and valvebody (if the rest of the trans is still in good shape). And with a stick you will need to do a clutch.

Also you will probably want to upgrade your fuel system to support it so you aren't starving your vp for fuel when you get on it hard on the higher levels.

Go with the edge juice with attitude cause if you use the lower setting like 1 to 3 you get desent fuel mileage and levels 4 and 5 are just enough power to have fun with and also if you don't already have gauges the attitude monitor has them all in one for you

Check out TSTProducts.com and look for the Powermax line. I had the Comp version w/remote. Absolutely crazy amounts of power available. 0-9 settings, egt defueling, digital boost/egt readouts. Stock clutch won't hold on more than setting 5 as power come on VERY aggressively. HOLD ON !!!
