SilverStars in all my vehicles also.

I believe they are brighter and I can see better. Not sure if it is the brightness or just a color difference that helps.

I personally REALLY like them however.

I have been running the Silverstars for almost two years now since they came out and I love them. Much brighter than stock bulbs and they don't have that annoying blue ricer look to them.

If you have the upgraded harness, the best lights IMHO are the Hella HB5 80/100 Xenon bulbs.. I got a set of them from ctperformanceinc when one of my Silverstars burned out.... Those bad boys throw out the whitest light I have ever had!! My wife (who has rarely noticed any of the mods I've done to my truck) noticed the difference immediately.

Right now I'm running SilverStar Ultra bulbs, and they were a big step up from the stock bulbs. Down the road I'm going to do a clear headlight conversion and HID headlights, but there's no funding available for that right now...

Does the upgraded harness make a big improvement on the stock bulbs?

Since that harness is sending 14 volts to the lights, versus the 12 you get with the stock harness, it will definitely make a difference with the stock bulbs though I can't personally tell you how much of one. I put the harness in at the same time I put in the (now replaced) Silverstars...
