I read this on steve baz's web site?? I have no power and blue fuel??? what's this mean and how hard is it to fix???? Thanks guys

Things To Look For When Buying A Used Power Stroke Diesel

Injector o-rings:

"The injector O-rings have been known to be a problem. The new o-ring sets have a pink middle seal. If the truck has an o-ring problem, one of the signs can be a discoloration of the fuel in the filter bowl. There is a drain on the passenger side front of the filter bowl for draining water (the filter is also the water separator) and you can catch some of the drained fuel in a jar – it should be dingy yellow and not blue or dark. "

I am getting very little smoke and no power it shudders in the low end of the upper gears...

Here is a rundown of everything I have tryed...

Changed: fuel filter and fuel pump

Cleaned FPR screen

removed cat(rpm's fly up now, they used to struggle all the way up)still no help with power

unplugged EBPV

Checked turbo...no shaft play...

diesel kleen... no help

getting enough air intake with no vacum leaks that I can feel

Fuel pressure I am getting 50-60 psi at 600 rpm(idle)and 50-70 psi at 3000 rpm



Do you guys think it is the injector rings??? How hard is it to check these???

Sounds like o-rings. Little black bits of rubber little stuff in the Filter housing is another sign of o-rings on the way out. Sometime in 96 the pink ring was used on the assembly line.

I know the diesel that is delivered to us for our boats has a blue/green tinge to it, screwed me up at first but I guess it is something to do with the winter fuel. could this be the same thing you are seeing?

There's lots of red fuel around here for off road and boats. I haven't seen the blue/green dye or additive yet. What could cause blue or black with bad inj o-rings is the oil that fires the injectors leaking into the fuel. Fuel return to the tank will mix it.
Try keeping an eye on oil consumption and smell it. Fuel leaking into the oil is possible as well. So it may not stick low on oil. Older engines used to catch fire in the pan--a crank case fire. PSD's usually quit running when o-rings get bad enough. Some will fire but not run. Some will smooth out and go awhile after the first symptons appear, especially in warm weather.
