Im looking at an upcomming auction that has a few tri axle dumps.
There are a few trucks with 3.73's - 4.10s that i will target.
But there are a couple of trucks that have 4.88's and 5.13's that will likely be more in my price range.
If i got a truck with 4.88s how much should i be figuring its going to cost to regear it to 3.73's?
Are most 40-46k rear ends a cartridge type that i might be able to source a set out of a junk yard?

normally the least expensive way is to buy used pull outs, exchange, from a salvage yard. Call around but not always the best. You really need to look at the transmission model for the high gear ratio. If you have all you the information you can go on line to an Eaton site, fill in the blanks and get your max roads speed. Used to run some Autocar's with 5.29 rears that would do about 70 MPH. Transmissions were LL with a big overdrive.
