Just a couple quick questions. What year did ford quit using a king pin front joints rather than ball joints. The ratio is 3.54 and its out of a F-350. The only number on the diff is stamped in the centre casting 620093R. Hoping someone could help out. Does this number signify year in any way?
Thanks Matt

If I'm not mistaken 92 was the first year for ball joints. All previous were king pin.

86.5-92 = King pin
92-97 = ball joint
both are direct bolt in.
80-86 f350's had the d50ttb
79 and earlier had a dana 60 but its not the same.

I have an 85 King pin D60 here. So 85-91.5 = King Pin.

and 92 was the first year of the Balljoint.

And here is a spreadsheet for your BOM number... (Bill of Materials)

Its located...

Spreadsheet:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/D60 Front Shafts.xls

I searched for the number you provided there, but didnt find it, so double check it.

Two different style brakes on the balljoint version..... the 95+ is larger OD and different caliper. (applies to D50TTB also).

Just pointing it out if you like to keep your swap quick or low-impact.

So you are saying an '80 F-350 is going to have the same axle that I have now? I got a line on one for $500 and was all excited but now I'm not so sure. Was going to go look at it tomorrow.

Yes the 80-84 F-350's used the TTB D50 up front, NO SOLID AXLE. Some 85's had a TTBD50 and some had a D60 SA.

I'd still go look at it, and make sure it isnt a D50, but if it IS a D60, get the BOM number, or take the numbers with you and cross reference it to see what it really is.
