The C4500 Series carries a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 16,000 pounds, and the C5500 is available in 18,000- and 19,500-pound GVWRs.

available Duramax 6600 6.6L turbodiesel V8 and Vortec 8100 8.1L gasoline V8 engines drive the TopKick C4500 and C5500 Series trucks

Hmmm

TOPKICK C6500/ C7500 / C8500 OFFER:

Duramax 7800

Vortec 8100

Caterpillar 3126E

Hmmm Not mention of the 6.6 over 19.5K-LB GVWR . . .

Fair enough Mike, but what truck is running the 6.4, 7.3, 5.9, 6.7?? and doing it reliably for 400,000miles? i can see the dt466 but its built like a tank compared to the cummins and powerstroke.....

Besides this thread is about a light duty diesel named the 4.5L duramax, which will never end up in a 33000lb GVWR truck, it was never built to do so, and neither was the 6.6 for that matter, just as the 5.9L was never designed to be in a pickup, but someone at dodge had enough fore-sight to make a contract with Cummins before someone else did

You can say whatever you want about the 6.6L, in the end i know what i have, and if the Cummins was that great of a motor i would have bought another, but I cant see me trading this truck for one any time soon, ive never heard of someone swapping a Cummins into a GM in place of a Duramax...... :happymugs

Good information Mike, but some is missing. I have personnaly driven C6500 series trucks with 454 Gas engines in them, and C6500 series trucks with Duramax's in them. You are right about the weights though. The C6500 is just under 26K.

Back on topic, I really cant wait for them to offer a diesel Suburban again. :thumbsup

I'd be interested in a Diesel Tahoe, or Diesel Expedition for that matter.

Yes a 4.5L V-8 diesel in a Camaro would be cool, I just don't think it would selected much as the Gas V-8 will accelerate faster . . . but i think it would make a nice option for the V-6 type of crowd who wanna look cool and save fuel . . .

olus a 300K mile Maro would neat to have :happymugs

With a variable geometry turbo I think that off the line throttle response would be just about as good as a gasser, with a lot morw torque and way better mileage, I mean a 3500lb car with 350hp and 650tq would be wild

Would of been nice if GM had this in the third Gen F bodys fricken 2.73 n 3.08 gears standard with optional 3.23 n 3.42 gears . . . The mustang had 3.55s n 3.73s and could be had with 4.10s . . .

It would be great if they , GM or Ford would power a half ton truck or suv with a diesel. I wonder sometime that big oil would be against this , it could be a reality to see 30 mpg in one of these , maybe even 35 mpg. My F250 utiltiy truck will get 17 mpg , it is an 02. It is also loaded with tools , fuel tank etc. I also wonder if they fear warranty issues , i.e. dumbazz puts gas in tank. We had a guy put diesel in a gas gator the other day , because the gas tank was locked. He thought it would be OK just once. On topic , chrysyler with they're relationship with mitsubitshi could pull one of they're small I6 engines for a half ton. I think they make a 5 liter inline six , that would get phenomanol mileage in a pick up. Quiet also.

If chrysler put a small diesel in anything it will more likely be a FIAT not Mitsubishi.

LOL missing the point the 6.6L wasn't installed in a 33K GVWR truck :haha
:thumbsup GM knew better :thumbsup

I'm sure if you looked hard enough you very well might find even 3 6.5's with 500K miles :wtf . . . LOL :haha :roflol: . . .

I'm sure it all "could" have happened but ya see here is the thing the 7.3/6.4 & 5.9/6.7 have done it so often the majority of the planet has seen it done :thumbsup

The D-max is a great engine i didn't say it wasn't makes good power too, Until D-max's reporting 500K miles start becoming a routinely done thing i'll remain skeptical of its abilities to run with IHC & Cummins sorry . . . No malice intended . . .

Mike
Well, maybe GM (unlike IH & Ford) was smart enough to not install a light duty diesel engine in a medium-heavy truck. As an IH 33K dumptruck owner, I can flat out tell you a 7.3L DOES NOT belong in a 33K dump truck, either.
Heck, my DT-466 barely cuts it.

And since they never did install a 6.6L in a 33K truck also means we DON'T KNOW if it would make it to 500K miles....maybe it would.

I can tell you right now, I'd rather have my 360/650 DMAX in my 33K dumptruck than my DT466. At least I could climb a hill loaded without downshifting. Heck, might as well throw the allison trans in the dumptruck, too. Just like Ford & IH....LOL

I don't know i heard the 7.3L was a fine diesel engine lots of supporters, tho i haven't owned one myself i did run a 7.8L Ford Diesel for a few years it done a fine job and so did the 8.3L Cummins i had too . . .

The DT466 with the 7spd did a fine job in the tow wrecker tho it was rolling 19.5's not 22.5's :happymugs
